Project Description

Completed in 2025, this multi-level residence stretches the length of a generous beachside section in Waihi Beach, thoughtfully positioned to maximise space, and connection to its coastal setting.

The project began with the removal of a modest bach perched on a rise at the rear of the property. In its place now stands a carefully considered, architecturally crafted home defined by scale, and a series of distinct yet cohesive living spaces. Each space holds its own feel, while remaining connected through strong architectural lines and material continuity.

The expansive kitchen anchors the home, flowing effortlessly into the dining and main living areas, and extending out to a refined covered outdoor entertaining space. Designed for year-round use, this area performs equally well through the cooler winter months as it does during long summer evenings.

Externally, the home is wrapped in a combination of Tri-Clad and cedar cladding. Generous joinery elements draw natural light deep into the interior and create strong visual and physical connections to the multiple outdoor zones, reinforcing the home’s openness and relationship to place.

From the second level, the home captures expansive views across Waihi Beach while enjoying exceptional solar gain throughout the day, a true suntrap by design. The landscaping has been carefully curated to complement the architectural form, softening the structure while enhancing its presence on the site. Thoughtful exterior detailing and material selection complete the residence with a sense of cohesion, naturally drawing occupants outdoors and encouraging year-round use of the surrounding spaces.
